Tulip River Cruises 2027: Best Sailings, Dates and Which to Book
Compare 2027 tulip river cruises from AmaWaterways, Viking, Tauck, Emerald, Scenic and Avalon by April date, route and fare, and pick the week that catches Keukenhof.

A tulip river cruise fits you if you want Keukenhof, windmills and Flemish cities in one unpack-once week in Dutch spring. For 2027, I would start with AmaWaterways’ Tulip Time if you want the widest choice of April dates plus Ghent and Bruges, and Tauck’s Belgium & Holland in Spring if you want everything handled, including gratuities. Choose Emerald’s Holland & Belgium in Bloom for the lowest published April fare. Viking’s Tulips & Windmills gives you nine nights from the lowest lead fare, Scenic includes drinks all day, and Avalon’s April 22 sailing adds a botany expert for gardeners.
Keukenhof’s 2027 season runs from March 18 to May 9. Book a departure between April 6 and April 16, 2027. That puts your Keukenhof day near the middle of the season, giving you the most flexibility whether spring runs early or late.
2027 Tulip River Cruise Sailings Compared
Starting fares are per person in the lowest cabin category, as published on each line’s site on October 29, 2026.
Seven-Night Amsterdam Roundtrips
AmaWaterways, Emerald, Scenic and Avalon sail seven nights roundtrip from Amsterdam.
| Line and ship | Itinerary | Starting fare | April 2027 departures |
|---|---|---|---|
| AmaWaterways: AmaLucia, AmaSerena, AmaSiena, AmaVenita or AmaViola, by date | Tulip Time | Not published online. Quoted by date. | April 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20 |
| Emerald: Emerald Star-Ship | Holland & Belgium in Bloom | $3,218 (April 9); $3,398 (April 16). | April 5, 9, 16 |
| Scenic: Scenic Space-Ship | Windmills, Tulips & Belgian Delights | $4,168 (April 7 to 16); $5,527 (April 6). | April 6, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19 |
| Avalon: ship assigned by date | Tulip Time Cruise | $4,451 on both dates. | April 15; April 22 (for Garden & Nature Lovers) |
Longer and One-Way Sailings
Tauck sails eight nights between Amsterdam and Brussels, and Viking sails nine nights roundtrip from Amsterdam.
| Line and ship | Itinerary and route | Starting fare | April 2027 departures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tauck: ms Grace, Inspire, Joy or Treasures | Belgium & Holland in Spring, 8 nights, Amsterdam-Brussels one-way | $5,990. | April 6, 13, 20, 27 |
| Viking: ship assigned by date | Tulips & Windmills, 9 nights, Amsterdam roundtrip | From $2,799 (2027 lead fare). | Quoted by date; Viking's site does not list them |
The lead fare is not the trip price. Tauck includes gratuities and shore excursions, Emerald includes gratuities and airport transfers, Scenic includes premium drinks all day, and AmaWaterways includes wine and beer with meals. Compare quotes with those differences in mind, not just the headline numbers.
Which Tulip Cruise to Choose
Choose AmaWaterways for choice of dates and the fullest tulip program. It has 13 April departures, a Ghent and Bruges day, cycling in the Delta landscapes at Bruinisse, a stop at Kinderdijk, and a final day with Keukenhof and the Flevoland tulip fields. The trade-off: the fare is not published, so you need a quote for each date you are considering.
Choose Tauck for the most handled trip. You get eight nights, Kinderdijk with a bike excursion, a Ghent walking tour, Bruges, a private Royal Delft tour and a Tauck-exclusive dinner at the Mauritshuis in The Hague. The trade-off: it is the highest fare on the table, and the one-way route means flying home from a different city than you flew into.
Choose Emerald for the lowest published April fare: $3,218 on April 9, with gratuities and airport transfers included. The trade-off: only three April dates, and Zaanse Schans is the windmill stop on its day list rather than Kinderdijk.
Choose Viking for the longest Dutch itinerary: nine nights with Enkhuizen, Kinderdijk, Middelburg and Veere, and Keukenhof included on Day 9. The trade-off: Ghent and Bruges are not on the day list, and pricing must be confirmed for your April departure.
Choose Scenic for all-day premium drinks and Hoorn on the route, with five departures at $4,168 inside the mid-April window. The trade-off: Ghent, Bruges and Kinderdijk are not on its day list.
Choose Avalon for a garden-focused week. The April 22 Garden & Nature Lovers sailing carries an expert who lectures on botany. The trade-off: that date sits in late April, past the middle of Keukenhof’s season. For a mid-April date, Avalon’s regular Tulip Time Cruise departs April 15.
If Viking and AmaWaterways are your final two, my Viking vs AmaWaterways comparison covers the onboard differences.
When to Sail: Early, Mid or Late April
Keukenhof’s own guidance is that bloom follows the weather. Crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths and early tulips open first, and the larger, later-blooming tulips follow. The bulb fields around the park follow nature too, and Keukenhof does not predict their exact bloom.
- Late March and the first days of April: You are booking the early flowers: crocuses, daffodils, hyacinths and early tulips, before the larger tulips open. AmaWaterways sails from March 19 and Tauck from March 30. I would book these only if your dates are fixed.
- April 6 to April 16 departures: This is the safest bet. Your Keukenhof day falls close to the middle of the March 18 to May 9 season, which gives you the most margin whether spring runs cold or warm.
- April 17 and later: You are betting on a late spring. Tauck’s May 4 departure runs right up against the May 9 closing, and its May 11 departure starts after Keukenhof has closed for the year. I would not book either one for tulips.
What I note in my Rhine river cruise guide holds for Holland too: April brings spring scenery and lighter crowds, along with cooler weather and rain. Pack layers and a waterproof jacket for the garden day.
Stops That Make It a Tulip Trip
| Stop | Why it matters | Lines that feature it in 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Keukenhof | The reason for the trip: planted tulip beds outdoors, plus flower displays in the pavilions all season. | All six lines |
| Bulb fields | Open fields of color outside the park. | AmaWaterways (Flevoland tulip fields, Day 7) |
| Kinderdijk | Nineteen 18th-century windmills. | Viking (included, Day 5), AmaWaterways (Day 6), Tauck |
| Ghent and Bruges | Medieval Flemish canal cities. | AmaWaterways (both on Day 3), Tauck (both), Avalon (Ghent), Emerald (Bruges) |
| Antwerp | Belgium's port city, with Renaissance streets and Flemish food. | All six lines |
| Hoorn and Enkhuizen | Old seafaring towns on the IJsselmeer. | Viking (Enkhuizen, Day 3), Scenic (Hoorn, Day 6) |
Before you deposit, check three things on the exact departure:
- Keukenhof is included, not optional. On Viking, the Keukenhof walk is included and the Keukenhof and Haarlem combination costs extra. A tulip name in the title does not prove the garden visit is in the fare.
- Which day Keukenhof falls on. Viking notes that it swaps the Day 2 and Day 9 programs on some departures because of Keukenhof’s opening schedule. On an early-April date, a garden day at the end of the cruise gives the tulips more time.
- Bruges is a tour, not a suggestion. If Bruges matters to you, confirm it is an included excursion on your date.
Booking Timing, Cabins and Amsterdam
Tulip season sells well ahead, alongside Christmas markets and prime Danube dates, as I note in my Viking vs Emerald comparison. The April 2027 dates are on sale now. If you want a specific mid-April date and cabin category, I would place the deposit now rather than wait for a spring promotion.
For cabins, aim for a mid-deck French balcony. April evenings are cool and wet, so a step-out balcony sees less use than it would in summer, while a full-height opening window still gives you the canal and polder views. My guide to cabins to avoid on a river cruise ship covers noise, elevator access and the lowest deck.
Every sailing here starts or ends in Amsterdam. Add at least one hotel night in Amsterdam before boarding, or after a Tauck sailing that finishes in the city. My Amsterdam river cruise port guide covers berths, the Schiphol train and the transfer to your ship. If you want the Rhine as well, end the tulip cruise in Amsterdam and continue on a separate Amsterdam-Basel sailing; use Rhine river cruise extensions to decide where to add hotel nights.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best tulip river cruise for 2027?
I would start with AmaWaterways’ Tulip Time: 13 April departures, Ghent and Bruges, Kinderdijk, and Keukenhof with the Flevoland tulip fields. Choose Tauck’s Belgium & Holland in Spring if you want gratuities and excursions included at $5,990, or Emerald’s Holland & Belgium in Bloom for the lowest published April fare, $3,218 on April 9.
What is the best week in April 2027 for a tulip river cruise?
Depart between April 6 and April 16, 2027. Keukenhof is open from March 18 to May 9, 2027, so that window puts your garden day near the middle of the season. Avoid late-March departures if you want the large tulip displays, and skip any sailing that starts after May 9.
Is Viking or AmaWaterways better for a tulip river cruise?
Choose AmaWaterways if you want Ghent, Bruges, cycling and the most April dates. Choose Viking if you want nine nights in Holland with Enkhuizen, Kinderdijk, Middelburg and Veere from a $2,799 lead fare. Both itineraries visit Keukenhof.
Is Keukenhof included on a tulip river cruise?
Yes on Viking, which lists the Keukenhof walk as an included excursion on Day 9; its Keukenhof and Haarlem tour is a paid upgrade. AmaWaterways, Tauck, Emerald, Scenic and Avalon all feature Keukenhof on their 2027 tulip itineraries, and confirm it is in the fare on your exact departure before you deposit.
What happens if the tulips are late or early?
You still see Keukenhof’s planted beds and its indoor flower shows, which run throughout the season. The bulb fields are the part that moves with the weather. A departure between April 6 and April 16 gives you the most margin either way.
